About Blue Enterprises, Inc.
Blue Enterprises, Inc. was formed in fall 1998 by the combining of Blue Information Systems of Weld, Maine and Business Systems Development of Benton, Maine. Both practices focused on the small business needs of rural communities providing job creation, marketing, business development, information systems technology and literacy education.
As a combined company, Blue Enterprises continues to respond to the unique challenges faced by rural people in gaining information access and connecting with the rest of the businessworld.
Key programs at Blue Enterprises include hosting an Internet cafe and learning center in Weld, Maine, assisting low income persons in gaining literacy and business related skills to improve their own quality of life, matching US businesses for partnerships and CO-marketing with businesses from French speaking countries as a representative for the Forum Francophone des Affaires-USA, providing low cost computer services to rural residents of western Maine, helping new small business start ups and developing marketing channels for home based micro-businesses and small business ventures. Blue Enterprises continues to diversify and develop key services to support area businesses and develop greater competitiveness forrural people in the world market place.
New projects include expanding the bandwidth of our Internet access and creating a strong backbone for the numerous computer based projects being implemented at our Weld, Maine facility.
A portion of the income generated by Blue Enterprises goes to support the Electronic Grange Network (EGN) which is a nonprofit (501 (c)3) organization which seeks to improve communications resources and information accessfor rural citizens. EGN pioneered a nationally acclaimed rural information systems network which provided free public access to computer assisted telecommunications in the rural towns of western Maine. The E-Grange operates public access television stations and a wide area network, distributes free recycled computers to low income persons, offers conferences, learning labs and on the job experiences to improve techno-literacy in rural Maine.
EGN participates in the state's Pathways from Poverty task force and currently offers a publication entitled "Telling Our Stories" which is a collection of first person essays written by persons who found a "pathway" out of poverty and used it successfully to better their own situations. Recently, the EGN acquired digital video production equipment and now offers frill documentation and video broad band services to other non-profits and the general public.
EGN has been the recipient of grants from the W.K.Kellogg Foundation, North East Center for Rural Development, Maine Community Foundation, The US Department of Commerce Telecommunications Infrastructure Improvement Assistance Program (TIIAP) and several other private foundations.
